DIRECTOR OF public engagement
Thank you for your interest in this role.
As you probably know, the need for food banks has increased steadily since 2010. Though the storm caused by 2020’s coronavirus pandemic swept many people into destitution, we hoped that one-off surge in demand would quickly subside. Sadly, the sharp rise in the cost of energy, food and other essentials, alongside the £20 cut to universal credit in October 2021, has meant that between April 2021 and March 2022, food banks in the Trussell Trust network still provided more than 2.1 million parcels to people facing financial hardship, with 832,000 of these parcels going to children.
While supporting food distribution will continue to be a core part of our work, we are first and foremost an anti-poverty charity: we use the money people give to us to effect change at a system level, as well as a tactical level. This role will be at the heart of that mission. You'll be a champion for the Trussell Trust’s presence in the public sphere, advocating for our vision of a UK without the need for food banks, and providing the practical resources to achieve it by developing a sustainable, growing and long-term income generation programme.
It's a vital task, in which you'll take responsibility for nurturing and deepening relationships with audiences, supporters and collaborators. You'll share the stewardship of our organisation and network’s vision and values, and lead your teams with an inspiring blend of integrity, ambition and accountability.
I look forward to receiving your application.
